everyshire 02 - in the nightgown

minecraft post made on sunday, jun. 29, 2025 (1:25am)

while i'm still trying to get some chests into the aorta, i decided i'd spend today making my first addition to the heart of everyshire! i thought choosing a block i wanna start off with would be a lot more tedious and picky than it really was, because on the first random block picker attempt, i got "note block!" and after thinking for a second... i decided the most fitting way to use note blocks would be... to write notes!

honestly, i know note blocks can actually play notes, but i've never been big into redstone. i kind of want most of the things i build to be able to be captured in one picture. so... how could i capture notes in a picture? ...sheet music. i'm going to build sheet music. and this is probably going to be the most fitting time, so i need to think of the most fitting song! and given this is my forever world, i guess the most fitting song would be my favorite one.

if you asked me what my favorite song of all time was, for years and years i would give you an answer like "there's just too many to choose!" and "huh, i've never really thought about it!" and now that i have really thought about it, my favorite song of all time is definitely nightgown of the sullen moon by they might be giants. so...

drawing both layers and using the magic wand tool leads me to believe that i need 528 note blocks for the notes and 580 spruce planks for the less busily-textured staff behind them. 528 note blocks is just a teensy bit harder to get than you'd expect, though! each note block needs 2 logs worth of planks as well as a piece of redstone dust.

in terms of stacks, 528 is about 8 and a quarter. which makes this as daring an endeavor as getting 16 and a half stacks of logs. i'm gonna have to grind down some big spruce trees! and adding all the logs i'll need for the staff to that, the total number of logs comes out to 18 stacks and 49. let's round that up to an even nineteen just to be safe!

okay, so, i realize there aren't any big spruce trees nearby. what i did find was a jungle, which is basically just same shit different color! also, i was able to get melons for a potential melon build in the future! ...i say potential, but i mean definite. melons are in, like... the top 5 most fun blocks to build with.

finished sheet music!

and some resource gathering and temporary-block-placing later... (i really need to get one of those happy ghasts to make building things like this a bit easier) it's done! all my rockets are gone, though... damn air-builds. they look so amazing but they cost so much!
